Avalanche, Ocean Beach – Feb 5, 2022

Event # 4 of the San Diego Middle School Division 1 Surf Teams was a trip down south to Avalanche.  While the rest of the west coast was wishing for waves, a little northwest pulse gave us some fun 2-3 foot waves at Avalanche.  The morning low tide was a bit difficult but slowly filled in with some really fun corners in the middle of the beach from the sand bars.  Great surfing by everyone and the weather did not disappoint after a pretty cold start to the day.  Valley Middle School turned in a stellar performance in the finals with Reid Van Wagoner taking another back to back Double Double award for Girls Shortboard and Longboard while Luke Macbeth took the win in Boys Shortboard and Noah Hogle took the win in Boys Longboard. Yu Yu Chan from Oak Crest spoiled the sweep taking the win the Bodyboard Division.

Exit Sea World Drive and veer to the right
Stay in left lanes and veer to the left on Sunset Cliffs Blvd
You will cross over the river
Turn right on Point Loma Blvd (signal)
Turn right on Voltaire (small street about 1/2 mile down)
You will now be in the parking lot
SSS site is at the very south end of the parking lot

COMING FROM THE SOUTH
I-5 North
Exit I-8 West (beaches)
I-8 becomes Sunset Cliffs Blvd.
Merge to the left onto Sunset Cliffs Blvd
Turn Right on Point Loma Blvd (signal)
Turn right on Voltaire (small street about 1/2 mile down)
You will now be in the parking lot
SSS site is at the very south end of the parking lot
