Well it has been a rough season but we managed to finish our 5th and final event for our Orange County Middle School Surf Teams Division 1 & 2. As has happened all season HB Pier offered up some very challenging conditions with 4 to 6 foot peaks. Our middle school kids were up to the challenge and we crowned a few overall season champions at this event. Kai McPhillips from Shorecliffls earned the champion hat in both Boys Shortboard and Boys Longboard with his team mate Taj Lindblad following close behind in 2nd for the season in Boys Shortboard. Kai McPhillips earned a perfect season in Boys Longboard taking 5 wins. Congratulations Kai, an awesome accomplishment. In Girls Longboard it looks like Hana Catsimanes narrowly beat her team mate Alexis Morgan for the champions hat and Liam Gillon from Marco Forster has sealed the champ’s hat in the Bodyboard Division. These are all unofficial until all the ratings have been input. In middle school the top 4 events out of 5 count in the final tally for the season. Middle School Division 2 and the other Division 1 champions are too close to call at this time.
Thank you to our coaches, parents, and competitors for being patient as we struggled to get this season complete. El Nino conditions came in the form of large surf instead of rain which caused numerous cancellations for the SSS this season. This was a historic season and one that we hope we never have to deal with again. We will complete the season with our Middle School State Championships April 30 & May 1 at Oceanside South Jetty.
