In  a battle for the ages, California’s best middle school surfers proved why they were the cream of the crop at this year’s 2011 Scholastic Surf Series Middle School State Championships. From early on it was clear that San Clemente’s Shorecliffs middle school from had winning on their mind.  The star studded team got off to a quick start and never let up to take top-honors in the overall team division.

In the Boys Shortboard Division, it was Mitchell Aterburn from Aviara Oaks displaying performance surfing at its best, and earning him the 2011 Scholastic Surf Series Boys Shortboard champion title.

Not to be outdone by Mitchell’s performance, Kylie Loveland from Aviara Oaks stepped her game up to claim victory in the Girls Shortboard division.

The Middle School State Championships concluded this year’s season, but with the heaps of talent shown throughout the seaon, we know next year will only be that much better.
