OCTOBER 29, 2011 – NINTH STREET, HUNTINGTON BEACH-This past weekend, the Scholastic Surf Series, a division of the Western Surfing Assoc. (WSA), kicked off the 2011-2012 season at Ninth Street in Huntington Beach. Seven Orange County Middle Schools and four High Schools competed in 3-to 4-foot surf under perfect conditions. Shorecliffs Middle School took top-honors in the team division, as their team shined in Huntington Beach’s fun conditions. In the High School division, Santa Margarita’s Dane Peterson rose above a field of top-notch competitors to claim feat in the Men’s Shortboard Division. Similar to Peterson’s path to victory, Monica Laird edged out Megan Roby to take the win in the Women’s Shortboard Division. Competitors will meet next on November 19 at Oceanside Harbor.
